Glentoran have appointed former Carrick Rangers manager Gary Haveron, following the departure of Alan Kernaghan.

Haveron quit Carrick in May after keeping them in the Irish Premiership, although he was the subject of a summer relegation saga as the club were not deducted points for him breaching his managerial touchline ban in a match away to Dungannon Swifts.

The former Ballymena and Coleraine defender's first match in charge of the Glens is at home to fierce rivals Linfield on Saturday.

Glentoran lie 10th in the table, two points above 11th-placed Carrick and have collected only seven points from nine games.
